Removing Acrylic Nails

Removing Acrylic Nails at Home

Removing acrylic nails is an important part of a manicure, to ensure that your nails stay healthy and beautiful. There are several ways to remove acrylic nails, but the most common way is to do it at home. Here are some tips and tricks to help you remove the acrylic nails safely and effectively.

Choosing a Method

You can either use the traditional method of nail clippers and nail file, or you can use an electric nail file to remove acrylic nails. Both methods can be done at home, with the necessary tools available at most pharmacies and beauty supply stores.

Gather the Right Tools

No matter which method you choose, you need to have the right tools. These include:

  • Nail Clippers – To trim the nail down so that it’s easier to remove.
  • Nail File – To gently file away the acrylic until it can be easily removed.
  • Electric Nail File – To buff away the acrylic.
  • Cotton Pads – To apply acetone to help dissolve the acrylic.
  • Acetone – To soften and help remove the acrylic.
  • Cuticle Oil – To re-hydrate and nourish the nails after removing the acrylic.

Removing the Acrylic

When you’re ready to begin the process, start by clipping the nail down to a shorter length than the acrylic. Then, either use the nail file or the electric nail file to carefully buff away the acrylic. You may have to repeat this process several times in order to get the acrylic completely smooth.

Once the acrylic is smoothed down to the nail bed, use the cotton pads to apply a few drops of acetone to the nail. Wait 5-10 minutes for the acetone to dissolve the acrylic, then gently remove the acrylic with a cuticle pusher.

Aftercare

Once you’ve successfully removed the acrylic, use cuticle oil to nourish and re-hydrate the nails. Additionally, apply a nourishing hand cream and massage it onto the nail bed. This will help promote healthy nail growth.

Removing acrylic nails at home can be done safely and easily with the right tools. Follow these tips and tricks to get beautiful, healthy nails.
