What is IP?
IP stands for Internet Protocol. An IP address is a unique number that allows two devices, such as computers and smartphones, to communicate with each other over the internet. In other words, it is like a postal address — you can’t send or receive anything without one.
How do I find my IP?
If you’re curious to know what your IP is, here are a few simple steps you can take to find it:
- Check the settings of your operating system. Windows and Mac users can find their IP addresses by going to their operating system settings, while Android users can go to their device settings.
- Open a command prompt. On Windows, open the ‘Run’ dialog box by pressing Windows Key+R and type ‘cmd’. On Mac, open the ‘Terminal’ app from the ‘Utilities’ folder.
- Type ‘ipconfig’ for Windows or ‘ifconfig’ for Mac. The command prompt will display your IP address.
In addition to the above methods, you can also check your IP address on websites such as ipchicken.com or whatismyip.com.
